A New Creation is Everything: A Third Sermon on Galatians
Jul 6, 2025
In this final sermon on St. Paul's letter to the Galatians, Fr. Justin challenges us again to consider where we ground our salvation and self-worth: in ourselves or in God. For Paul, and for Martin Luther after him, what we do doesn't define us spiritually. Instead, what matters is what God has done for us in Jesus Christ—the new creation God makes of us. Locating our salvation in our accomplishments leads us to obsess over the 'correct' ways of doing things, turning even mundane activities like how we load a dishwasher into measures of moralsuperiority (or inferiority). Paul enjoins us, instead, to let God's love in Christ shape our interactions with others as well as our view of ourselves.
