Jesus Christ vs. Poseidon

When life feels overwhelming, where do we find hope? Drawing on the story of Jesus walking on the water, along with stories of Odysseus and other storm-tossed travelers, this sermon explores God’s presence in the midst of fear and vulnerability. The God revealed in Jesus is not the one who creates the storms to punish us, but the one who reaches out to us when we are drowning. Like Elijah, who discovers that God is not found in the wind, earthquake, or fire but in the sheer silence, we are invited to recognize God not necessarily in spectacular solutions but in the quiet, sustaining presence of divine love. Like Peter, we may become distracted by the winds around us and lose our footing, but Jesus invites us to trust rather than fear. We may not be able to control life’s storms, but we can trust that God is always reaching toward us with love, hope, and a hand ready to catch us.
