Static

Have you ever felt like God was absent, like He just up and disappeared from your life? Father Justin finds comfort in the story of the healing of Naaman, an Aramean whom God healed of leprosy through the ministry of the Old Testament prophet Elisha. Naaman expects to be healed in an obvious, experiential, even magical way, but instead, Elisha asks him just to bathe in the Jordan River. God heals Naaman through an ordinary, mundane experience, and often does the same for us. It’s like there’s static in our religious experience that keeps us from picking up God’s signal perfectly. Even when God feels absent from us, He’s actually there, just unfelt—and He’s working for our good, our healing, and our salvation.
