Friction

In our modern world of instant gratification and frictionless convenience, we've become accustomed to getting what we want with a simple tap on a screen. But there are two forms of friction we can never eliminate: our finitude and our sin. This message explores how God, through the incarnation at Christmas and Jesus's baptism in the Jordan, takes on both of these unavoidable realities. We cannot optimize our way out of being human, with all its needs and failings. But the good news is that God meets us precisely in these places of friction—not to eliminate them, but to share them with us, offering healing, pardon, resurrection, and forgiveness.
